Gifts for Animal Lovers

Nov 11 2019

The holidays are approaching, and now is the perfect time to start finding gifts for all the animal lovers in your life! You know who they are, maybe their dog is always their plus one, or their social feed is all cat portraits. If they’re enrolled in our Vet Tech program, that’s an easy sign that they love animals! Let us help you find the perfect, unique gift for all your animal loving friends. And maybe even something for yourself!

1. Real Pet Art Custom Pet Canvas

We absolutely love this custom option, give your friends the gift of art! Have their pet’s portrait turned into a canvas they can display in their homes. With styles ranging from abstract watercolors to a renaissance queen, there is something for everyone.

Real Pet Art encourages you to include the pet’s personality and favorite hobbies when ordering so they can give it a personal flair. The canvases start at $19.95 and are easy to fit into your holiday budget.

2. BarkBox Subscription

Supply the dog’s name, their size, and the desired subscription length, and let BarkBox handle the rest! The longer your subscription, the more you save. Every month features a different theme, so your friends enjoy an all-new surprise on a frequent basis!

Every BarkBox includes two toys, two all-natural bags of treats, and a dog chew, so your friends (and their dogs!) will love the variety.

3. Kitten Lady Merchandise

For your friends that love cats, this allows you to give them a gift that keeps on giving. Profits from Kitten Lady Merchandise allows Hannah Shaw, the Kitten Lady, to fund her humane education and advocacy work. There’s a wide variety of products for a range of price points, no matter if a $10 pin is up your alley, or you want to spoil someone with a hand-stamped necklace.

For your book lovers, there are also two book options, including the New York Times bestseller Tiny But Mighty. Whether they have their own cats or not, we highly recommend Kitten Lady Merchandise because you’re not only purchasing a gift, you’re also helping kittens in need!

4. DivvyUp Custom Pet Socks

There’s a few options out there for custom pet socks, but we chose DivvyUp because of their humane efforts. For every pair of socks purchased, DivvyUp donates a brand new pair to a homeless shelter. As of April 2018, they had donated over 100,000 pairs, and they currently are on a mission to donate 1,000,000 pairs.

There’s an option for custom dog or cat socks, and you can also add a gift box. Let your friends take their pets with them everywhere with this unique gift!

5. Visit a Cat Cafe

If you want to gift an experience, take your friend to a cat cafe! We recommend Colony Café, which is located on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Strip District. The Colony Café offers a Cat Loft, a separate, cozy space where you can relax with 10-12 adoptable cats from Animal Friends, while enjoying food and drinks from their bistro. Open Wednesday-Sunday, the downstairs cafe serves coffee, wine, and food. While the upstairs Cat Loft accepts walk-ins, it’s best to make a reservation. There is a small cover fee for the Cat Loft, but can you really put a price on food, drinks, and the company of Pittsburgh’s cutest rescue cats?

Take a look at the current Cat Loft cats at Colony Café, and make a reservation for you and your favorite animal-loving friend. Unless otherwise noted, all cats in the Cat Loft are available for adoption. Who knows, you might go in for coffee and go home with a new best friend!
