Our extensive Surgical Technology program is designed to provide real experience for our students. Students can expect to participate in clinical and externship work while in school.
You can get the support you need through small class sizes, with laboratory classes limited to a 1:10 faculty to student ratio to gain more valuable one-on-one time with instructors.

It’s possible to actively work in the medical field without spending a decade in school. As a Surgical Technologist, you can assist doctors and other medical professionals while providing life-saving surgeries and operations. As a student at Pittsburgh Career Institute, you can also learn the basics of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and more to be prepared for your future career as a Surgical Tech.
All students in our Surgical Technology program are required to participate in externships and clinical Surgical Tech classes, which means you can get real-world experience while you’re a student! If you want to enter the medical field, but don’t want to invest in the years and years of schooling it takes, a career as a surgical tech could be for you! Many of our programs, including our Surgical Technology program can be completed in as little as 18 months.
The goal of our Surgical Technology program is to prepare you to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) national certification exam to obtain your Surgical Tech certification. There are a variety of opportunities that become possible after graduating from a Surgical Technician school like PCI.
While PCI does not guarantee employment or salary, we strive to prepare our students for a new career. Not only are externships a huge part of the education experience, we also provide students with career fairs, resume workshops, and mock interviews to help students showcase what they’ve learned to the best of their ability.
